What to Expect as a Competitor: Applicant Information
Format of the Competition
The Bromsgrove is a unique, biennial, international music competition; the first stage for Competitors is an online submission of two video recordings which are reviewed by our independent Adjudicators; successful applicants are invited to take part in the ‘live’ competition rounds.
For the next stage of Competition, musicians are invited to stay on site using the facilities at Bromsgrove School in Worcestershire. Accommodation, meals, and use of practice facilities for the duration of the Competition are provided free of charge.
For 2027, applicants must be available for the dates of the Competition as follows:
Preliminary Rounds: Tuesday 1st to Thursday 3rd June
Semi- Final Round: Friday 4th June
Final: Saturday 5th June
From the Semi-Final Round normally three Competitors will be chosen as Finalists.
The Finalists’ Concert takes place in front of a live audience during the evening of the final day. At the end of the evening, the Chair of the Adjudicators announces the winner and the prizes are presented.
Prizes
The prizes on offer for the overall winner of The Bromsgrove include a cash prize of £4,000. In addition, the Winner will have a bursary of £1,000 available to support future concert engagements.
Two other Finalists’ Prizes of £1,500 each, and these finalists will have a bursary of £500 each available to support future concert engagements.
These prizes may be subject to change.
Advice before entering
Competitors should have carefully read the RULES to ensure eligibility and conformity.
1. The closing date for all BIMC Competitor Applications is Monday, 19 April 2027 at 16.00 hours GMT.
2. Applicants must be available for the dates of the Competition: Preliminary rounds 1st, 2nd and 3rd June, semi-final on 4th June and Finalists' Concert on 5th June 2027.
3. Applicants may request a change of allocated Preliminary Round time for serious and unavoidable reasons but only via the Competition Administrator, contactable by email on admin@bromsgrovecompetition.com
4. Applicants must perform the exact programmes of music listed in their application for each round and within the given time limits, but they may change one piece in each programme no later than 24 hours before it is to be performed. This must be done strictly in accordance with Rule 6.
5. Applicants must provide three scores of music, including accompaniment, for the use of the Adjudicators for every piece to be performed, as set out in Rule 5.
6. Applicants are encouraged to visit our official Facebook page, Twitter and Instagram accounts to keep up to date with any changes or developments in the Competition.
7. There is an entry fee for applicants of £100. This should be paid via bank transfer to the BIMC bank account as soon as possible upon submission of the form: Sort Code 30-63-94; Account Number 30002260. A further £50 should be submitted for our own accompanists’ fee, if required.
