|Alison has been a secondary school Director of Music for many years, and she plays the cello. She studied Music with French at Birmingham University and then trained at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
During her teaching career she has led music departments for Worcester, Warwickshire and Birmingham authorities, and in Birmingham independent school education. She has published material, examined, adjudicated and trained others, and has taken positions on music festival and music education committees. Alongside this she has worked as a cello tutor for Birmingham Music Service and in 2000 she became the conductor / director of one of the string orchestras.
During her classroom tenure, besides the academic work and together with promoting high-standard performance as a conductor and jazz leader, she has regularly taken all kinds of ensembles out into the community to host workshops, winning competitions such as Cheltenham Festival with choirs, and directing groups to perform abroad. In 2000 Alison was awarded a Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Award.
In 2014 she stepped down from the classroom and the conducting podium to pursue new musical adventures both as a cellist and administrator.
